Former MSU Baseball Assistant Coach Jake Boss Sr. To Be Inducted Into Michigan Baseball Hall Of Fame This Weekend


EAST LANSING, Mich. — Former Michigan State baseball assistant coach Jake Boss Sr. will be inducted into the Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame at Jackson® Field™ this Saturday, July 20.

The induction ceremony will be held prior to the Lansing Lugnuts’ game against the Great Lakes Loons that starts at 7:05 p.m. 

Boss Sr. joined the Spartan staff in 2008 under his son, head coach Jake Boss Jr., with an extensive list of baseball credentials and accomplishments at the high school and collegiate levels. His vast baseball knowledge and success have made him one of the most respected coaches in the state of Michigan.

From 2008-12, Boss Sr., was in the MSU dugout as volunteer assistant coach. He then moved to the Spartan Radio booth and was analyst with Scott Moore on play-by-play from 2014-18.

Boss served in several capacities at high schools in the Greater Lansing area. He came to MSU after serving as head coach at Lansing Catholic Central from 2002-2008. While directing the Cougars, Boss collected six district Coach of the Year honors and two regional and conference Coach of the Year awards.

Prior to leading Lansing Catholic, Boss earned valuable collegiate experience at Alma College and Eastern Michigan. He served as an assistant coach at Alma from 1999-2001 and at Eastern Michigan from 1996-1999.

Boss got his first head coaching job in 1973 at Lansing Everett High School where he enjoyed great success for more than 20 years. He coached the Vikings through the 1996 season and collected numerous honors in the process, earning the conference Coach of the Year award seven times (1976, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1988, 1992 and 1996), district Coach of the Year four times (1982, 1986, 1987 and 1992) and regional Coach of the Year three times (1987, 2005 and 2008).

Boss’ combined 29 years of head coaching experience netted more than 500 wins, and he was inducted into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994. He won three Diamond Classics, seven conference…
