Veteran reliever Will Smith has been in the right place at the right time for three seasons in a row.
Smith has pitched for the World Series winner in each of the past three seasons, first for the 2021 Braves, then the 2022 Astros and then the 2023 Rangers.
This season the 35-year-old lefthander pitches for the Royals, giving him a chance to make it four rings in four seasons if Kansas City goes all the way.
Smith’s jewelry collection got us thinking about which active MLB players have the most World Series rings.
Smith ranks No. 1 with three rings. A total of 18 active players have two rings. Ten of them have a chance to make it three this October.
Some other active players played at least one regular season game for a team that went on to win the World Series, even if the player wasn’t a factor in the championship.
We used the following criteria:
• An active player appeared in at least one MLB game in 2024
• A player is credited with a ring if he appears in at least one regular season game for a World Series winner, even if he is injured during the postseason
Many of the players with two World Series rings have one thing in common: they played for the 2017 and 2022 Astros. This is true for Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yuli Gurriel, Lance McCullers Jr. and Justin Verlander.
