THE FLATS – Outfielder Jake DeLeo’s three-run moonshot broke the dam of Georgia Tech baseball’s offense, powering it to a 10-5 win over Lipscomb on Tuesday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (11-2) fell behind 0-2 thanks to solo home runs by the Bisons (5-7). Nicholas Romano was the first to strike, striping an RBI single through the left side to plate Jackson Finley in the second inning. DeLeo then blasted a ball high off the Brock Football Facility to give Tech a 4-2 lead.
Tech then tacked on runs thanks to RBI from Jack Rubenstein, Tyler Minnick, Angelo Dispigna and Finley to build its 10-5 margin.
Overall on the day, Finley went 3-for-4 with a double, DeLeo finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and Dispigna and Minnick had two hits apiece.
LHP Dalton Smith (1-0) earned the win, getting the start on the staff day. He went 3.0 innings, allowing just the two solo home runs. RHP Jackson Vaughan came in and pitched the fourth and fifth, surrendering just an earned run on five hits. RHP Aeden Finateri then turned in a scoreless sixth before freshman LHP Noah Samol had his best outing – 2.0 innings, one hit, no walks, one strikeout.
