Yankees get first crack at Blue Jays' potent offense on Monday

Aaron Judge and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. talk at first base

They had a chance at a clean sweep, but the Yankees will certainly take a 2-1 start against the Boston Red Sox to kick off their 2022 campaign because it’s definitely not going to be any easier on Monday with a new team heading to the Bronx.

The Toronto Blue Jays, another AL East foe, are riding high with a 2-1 record as well. And boy, did they hit their way to it.

Like the Yanks, it could’ve easily been a clean sweep of the Texas Rangers for these Jays, but their pitching let them down in an offensive outbreak at Rogers Centre on Sunday afternoon. Still, the Blue Jays come to the Bronx with one of the more potent offenses in the game.

Through just three games, they’ve managed to belt seven homers — and four of them came in the 12-6 loss on Sunday. Toronto has 20 runs in its first three games compared to the Yanks’ 13.

And of course, one of the main offensive producers for this team, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., is off to an MVP caliber start. He’s 5-for-12 with a 467-foot homer under his belt a day ago and four RBI. Bo Bichette, George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez, and Matt Chapman have all gone yard, and Danny Jansen is surprisingly 4-for-8 with two dingers already, too.

But the Yanks have done well themselves to start the season on the right foot, and a lot of that can be credited to Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton. They both have two homers on the year, and they came in the first two games of the season.
