Bo Bichette homers twice in Blue Jays' win

TORONTO — Bo Bichette took matters into his own hands this time.

The Blue Jays’ shortstop ensured another stellar start by Alek Manoah wouldn’t be wasted on Saturday afternoon, homering twice and driving in all of Toronto’s runs in a 3-1 win over the Reds at Rogers Centre.

Bichette’s sixth career multi-home run game handed Manoah the run support he needed to earn his fifth win of the season. The right-hander logged eight innings and yielded one run on seven hits to go with no walks and four strikeouts.

It was also a sight that’s becoming more common as Bichette regains star form after a slow start to the season. He now has a team-leading 12 RBIs for the month of May. Bichette’s first home run – a solo jack in the 4th – was the 50th of his career for the 24-year-old.

Closer Jordan Romano struck out the side to seal the win in the ninth and secure a series victory as Toronto will go for a three-game sweep of Cincinnati on Sunday.
