Big Ten Network’s Michael Huff talks College World Series favorites

Michael Huff likes Tennessee, the college baseball analyst says that the SEC program is his favorite to be the last team standing in a few weeks at the College World Series.

The consensus top team in the nation, Tennessee plays in the most dominant conference in the nation for college baseball and has been that conference’s most dominant team.

The Volunteers are ranked atop the latest USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll. Two SEC teams are in the top 10 in the latest poll with seven teams from the conference in the top 25.

Eight teams in the poll if future SEC member Texas is included.

Huff is a former college standout at Northwestern, where he played with future Major League star and current Philadelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi. The current Big Ten Network analyst played seven seasons for four tears in the major leagues.

He was asked his thoughts on the favorites right now to win the national championship. Huff didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Tennessee just because they’ve been so, so, so consistent. Which is really, to me, a testament to those kids staying focused. But they have still challenged themselves in terms of their non-conference schedule,” Huff said in a recent interview.

“And then you know, I hate to say it, but it’s always hard to look past you know, some of the more established programs that are having successes like the Vanderbilts, like the Miami I think, to win the NCAA tournament you have to get lucky.

“And I think teams like Tennessee, Oregon State, Miami, Florida…have put themselves in the position that they will get a favorable regional, they will get a favorable super region because there are specific parts of the country that I think they will get some teams that they should be favored playing on their home field.”
