June 11, 2022 – Carolina League (CarL)Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD – After a nearly two-hour rain delay pushed first pitch past 9 p.m., the Delmarva Shorebirds ended up falling 6-2 in a seven-inning contest to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Saturday night at Perdue Stadium.

Thanks to the rain delay, the game was changed from a standard nine-inning game to just a seven-inning contest with first pitch coming after 9 p.m.

The Shorebirds (19-37) left two aboard in the first inning, opening the door for the Woodpeckers (27-29) to score first in the second.

Fayetteville loaded the bases with nobody out in the second, and after two strikeouts, coaxed back-to-back walks from Victor Mascai and Yeuris Ramirez pushed home two runs.

The 2-0 lead for the Woodpeckers held until the fifth. Heston Kjerstad doubled with one out for the Shorebirds and after Isaac De León walked, Trendon Craig doubled off the leftfield wall, scoring Kjerstad, and putting two in scoring position. After another walk loaded the bases, Mishael Deson legged out an infield single, plating a run to tie the game at 2-2.

After the Shorebirds left the bases loaded in the sixth, the Woodpeckers didn’t miss their bases loaded chance in the seventh. With the bases full and one out, Logan Cerny demolished a grand slam, his 10th homer of the season, to push Fayetteville ahead 6-2, ultimately winning the game.

Nic Swanson (1-2) picked up the win for Fayetteville out of the bullpen, going three innings while allowing two runs on three hits and four walks, striking out five.

Conor Grady (3-4) suffered the loss for Delmarva, allowing four runs in 2.1 innings on three hits and four walks, striking out two.

Fans with tickets to tonight’s (June 11) game will be able to exchange tickets to a future game, excluding July 4, for lesser or equal value. To exchange your tickets, please contact the Shorebirds box office at 410-219-3112 Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
