Kolek Awarded League Weekly Honor

Pitcher Stephen Kolek of the Arkansas Travelers was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for July 4 -10 it was announced by Minor League Baseball. Last Thursday night at home against Springfield, Kolek shutout the Cardinals for six innings while giving up just two hits and two walks while striking out eight. His six scoreless innings came on the heels of four consecutive starts of allowing at least four runs in each. This is the second Pitcher of the Week award for Kolek this season joining Connor Jones as Travs hurlers to win twice in 2022. Taylor Dollard has also won one Pitcher of the Week this season.

Overall in 16 starts this season Kolek has a 4-7 record with a 4.55 ERA. The right-hander has totaled 83 innings, striking out 86 and holding opponents to a .230 batting average. He ranks third in the league in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts.

Kolek was acquired by the Seattle Mariners organization in a trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations in April of last year. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 11th round in 2018. The 25-year old pitched in college at Texas A&M.

The Travelers are on the road this week for six games in Wichita against the Wind Surge. Kolek’s next scheduled start is on Wednesday afternoon. The Travelers return home for a three game homestand July 22-24. A full list of game times and promotions can be found at travs.com.
