Travs Giving Free Pizza to Fans this Sunday

Three Homers Back Kolek in Travs' Win

July 22, 2022 – Texas League (TL)Arkansas Travelers News Release

Before the Arkansas Travelers game this Sunday at Dickey-Stephens Park, the first 500 fans entering the ballpark will receive a free slice of Shotgun Dan’s Pizza. Gates open at 12:35 p.m. for the 1:35 game.

The promotion recognizes an event that went viral on social media nearly a month ago involving Mariners outfielder Jesse Winker and Travelers season ticket holder and diehard Mariners fan Sofie Dill. Winker was one of several players ejected in the aftermath of a brawl in the second inning of a game between the Mariners and Angels on June 26.

After Winker’s ejection, Dill ordered a pizza from a local place in Anaheim with directions to deliver it to Jesse Winker in the Mariners’ clubhouse at Angel Stadium. Amazingly, the delivery driver talked his way into the ballpark and the pizza found its way into Winker’s hands all while Dill tracked the shared the events on social media. Once Winker ate some of the pizza and sent Dill a direct message on Twitter, the chain of events went viral on social media and became a feel good story around the sports world.

“I saw a headline about a Mariners fan sending Winker a pizza after the brawl. I immediately recognized Sofie’s name as one of our season ticket holders and a longtime supporter of the Travs” said Travs General Manager, Sophie Ozier.

To honor the thoughtfulness and generosity of Sofie Dill, the Travelers are partnering with Shotgun Dan’s, the official pizza provider of the Travs to spread the goodwill to fans.

“We wanted to do something fun to recognize the creativity and thoughtfulness of Sofie. We appreciate all of our fans who support both us and the Mariners” said Ozier.

The pizza giveaway will occur at the first base and home plate gates on Sunday. The first 500 fans in the gates will receive a voucher that can be redeemed at a booth for their free slice of Shotgun Dan’s pizza.

“I’ve been a Mariners fan since growing up in Tacoma and seeing Griffey Jr. and Sr. play together at the Kingdome,” said Dill. “Seeing players like Julio Rodriguez, Logan Gilbert, Kyle Lewis, Jarred Kelenic, and Emerson Hancock play in North Little Rock is still so surreal and never gets old.”

Founded in 1901, the Arkansas Travelers are the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and call Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock home. For all the latest information with the club and events at the ballpark, log on to travs.com or follow the Travelers on…
