May the Schwartz be with You! JT’s Grand Slam Gives BKLYN 6-2 Win

Cyclones Split Doubleheader in Jersey Shore on Friday

July 27, 2022 – South Atlantic League (SAL)Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY – The Cyclones topped the Hudson Valley Renegades by the score of 6-2 on Tuesday night, in the South Atlantic League’s version of the Subway Series. Luis Moreno (1-4) tossed 6.0 shutout innings, scattering two hits and a walk while striking out seven to collect his first win with the Cyclones. Offensively, JT Schwartz went 2-for-4, including a grand slam that proved to be the difference in the game.

It was a pitcher’s duel early on with Brooklyn starter Luis Moreno and Blas Castano for Hudson Valley. The two hurlers matched each other zero for zero through the first five innings, but with Castano out of the game in the top of the sixth, Brooklyn was able to break through.

Matt Rudick worked a one-out walk to start the threat and stole second before Rowdey Jordan singled into left field to push Rudick home just ahead of the tag to open the scoring. Nic Gaddis and Stanley Consuegra would later work back-to-back walks to load the bases with two outs and JT Schwartz took advantage of the scoring chance when he connected on a 3-2 offering and send it deep over the right field wall for a grand slam to extend the Cyclone lead to 5-0.

The lead would grow by a run in the seventh when Jaylen Palmer walked to start the inning, stole second and came around to score on an RBI single from Alex Ramirez that extended the Brooklyn lead to 6-0.

Hudson Valley’s bats awoke from their slumber in the bottom of the eighth after Carlos Narvaez walked on four pitches to start the inning and Aaron Palensky followed with a double to put a pair of runners in scoring position with nobody out. Brooklyn reliever Daison Acosta was able to limit the damage though, as the righthander got Aldenis Sanchez on a sac fly, and Trey Sweeney on a groundout – which plated a second run – before striking out Jasson Dominguez to end the frame with Brooklyn still on top 6-2.

Acosta tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the game and collect his fourth save of the season.

The Cyclones and Renegades will square off again on Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium with RHP Carson Seymour on the mound for Brooklyn. Game time is 7:05 PM.
