August 7, 2022 – Southern League (SL)Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS – The Mississippi Braves (47-55, 18-15) scored the final four runs but dropped the series finale to the Biloxi Shuckers (51-49, 17-16) 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park.

Vaughn Grissom hammered a solo homer to left center in the first inning. The ball left his bat at 103 miles per hour and traveled a little over 400 feet. In 21 games for Mississippi, Grissom is batting .345 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI.

The M-Braves outfield struggled to find the ball in the sun throughout the game.

In the first, Justyn-Henry Malloy lost a fly ball in left field that resulted in two runs. In the fourth, Cody Milligan lost a ball that dropped in for a base hit. Biloxi ended up scoring three runs in the first and two runs in the fourth to lead 5-1 through four innings.

Malloy posted his ninth multi-hit performance in 21 games, going 2-for-3 with a walk. He is batting .289 with two home runs and 11 RBI for the M-Braves.

Down 6-1, Andrew Moritz banged a triple off the high wall in right field in the seventh. Riley Delgado brought him in on a sacrifice fly to center to make it 6-2.

In the eighth, Jalen Miller punched an RBI base hit through the hole at second base to score Lugbauer. With the bases loaded, Logan Brown grounded a ball through the hole at shortstop to score two runs, making it 6-5.

Brown reached on all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBI.

Delgado made a tremendous double play to keep it at a one-run game in the ninth. With the bases loaded, the third baseman took a ball behind third base and stepped on the bag while throwing on the run to first base to retire the side.

The M-Braves went down in order in the final frame, and Biloxi took five of six in the series.

The M-Braves travel to Kodak, TN for a six-game road series against the Tennessee Smokies (Double-A Affiliate, Chicago Cubs) starting on Tuesday, August 9. The club returns to Trustmark Park on Tuesday, August 16 for a six-game home series against Pensacola.
