The Akron RubberDucks rally from six runs down to defeat the Bowie Baysox 7-6 on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Trailing 6-5 entering the bottom of the eighth, the RubberDucks looked to complete the comeback. Jose Tena lined a double into the left-center gap, which allowed Julian Escobedo to race home from first to tie the game at 6-6. A pitch later, Brayan Rocchio lifted a sac-fly to score Tena and give Akron the 7-6 win.
Mound Presence
Jaime Arias got the start for Akron and worked around traffic for the first two innings of work before the Bowie offense broke through with four in the third. In total, Arias tossed two and third innings allowing four runs. Jerson Ramirez followed with an inning allowing two runs. Brett Daniels followed with two and two third scoreless innings punching out four. Kyle Marman tossed two scoreless with two strikeouts. Cade Smith worked a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks started to claw back in the fourth when Bryan Lavastida scored on an error to make it 6-1 Bowie. Later in the inning, Escobedo lifted a sac-fly to make it 6-2 Ducks. Micah Pries singled home Tena in the fifth to make it 6-3 Baysox. Angel Lopez narrowly missed a home run in the sixth doubling off the wall in left to score Quentin Holmes and Escobedo to make it 6-5 Bowie.
Notebook
The six-run deficit is the largest Akron has overcome to win this season…Lopez’s two hit performance came in his first game catching in over a month…Akron’s bullpen allowed just four hits while striking out seven over the final five and two thirds scoreless innings they tossed…Game Time: 3:12…Attendance: 6,143.
