Escobedo and Bibee Lead Akron Past Erie 2-1

RubberDucks' Joey Cantillo Named Pitcher of the Month

Tanner Bibee tosses six innings of one run ball and Julian Escobedo lined a two-run triple to give the Akron RubberDucks the 2-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night at UPMC Park.

Turning Point


After being held scoreless for 18 consecutive innings, the RubberDucks finally broke through against Erie pitching. After a Jhonkensy Noel walk and Daniel Schneemann double put runners on second and third, Julian Escobedo came through with a two-run triple to give Akron the 2-1 lead.

Mound Presence

Tanner Bibee got the start for Akron and ran into some early trouble in the first surrendering a run. Bibee escaped the inning without any more damage and settled in to toss six innings allowing just the one run while striking out four. Brett Daniels followed with an inning and two thirds scoreless while striking out two. Cade Smith fired a scoreless inning and a third to pick up the save.

Duck Tales

Jose Tena and Brayan Rocchio each picked up hits in the victory. Akron left five on base and went 1-for-10 with RISP.

Notebook

Escobedo’s triple snapped a six-game hitless streak…Game Time: 2:24…Attendance: 4,738.

The RubberDucks will continue the series with the Erie SeaWolves on Saturday, August 20 at 6:05 p.m. at UPMC Park. Lefty Jaime Arias (0-1, 6.14 ERA) will take the mound for Akron against Erie right-hander Wilmer Flores (4-2, 2.26 ERA).
