Bats Can’t Hang on to Early Lead, Fall to Indians 6-2

Lively, Bats Shutout Stripers 6-0 on Sunday

August 31, 2022 – International League (IL)Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Stephen Piscotty knocked his first home run since joining the Bats but Louisville (52-73) couldn’t hang on, falling 6-2 to the Indianapolis Indians (63-60) on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

After a three up, three down top of the first inning, the Bats offense got to work in a hurry. Spencer Steer hit a ground rule double to get into scoring position with one away before Stephen Piscotty stepped to the plate and launched a home run to straight away center and put Louisville on top 2-0 in the first.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Piscotty grounded a ball softly to third base and was able to beat out the throw for a single before an errant throw allowed him to reach third base. Despite the effort, the scoring threat would come to pass with no damage.

Indianapolis answered in the next half inning, getting the leadoff man on with a single before a two-run homer evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning.

The Indians added two more runs in the seventh inning, courtesy of a second two-run home run to break the 2-2 tie and take a late 4-2 lead. Indianapolis extended its lead in the top of the ninth, scoring another two runs to push its lead to four at 6-2.

Louisville got a baserunner on in the home half of the ninth but couldn’t mount a come back as Indianapolis evened the series at one game apiece.

The Bats and Indians will continue their series tomorrow night with game three of six. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm E.T. with RHP Hunter Greene (0-0, 0.00) slated to make a rehab appearance with Louisville while Indianapolis has not yet announced its starter.
