MIAMI – After a rain delay that pushed the start time back three hours, Pitt improved to a 4-2 record on the season with a win over Florida International, 7-3, and a loss against Missouri, 5-2, at Felsberg Field Friday night.
Graduate student Sarah Seamans led the Panthers, going 4-for-6 with a home run, a double, an RBI, and a run scored over the two games. Seamans has recorded four multi-hit efforts in six games this season. Sophomore Amanda “Tuta” Ramirez went 3-for-6 with an RBI and a walk, and currently leads the Pitt lineup, batting .667 (6-for-9) over five games.
Game One vs. Missouri
The Panthers struck early as graduate student Yvonne Whaley (2-for-4) returned to the Pitt lineup after sitting out last week due to injury. Whaley sparked the Panther offense with a double in the top of the first inning, and eventually scored on an RBI double from Seamans.
Junior Cami Compson (1-for-2) continued the momentum with a double to left field in the top of the second. Compson advanced to third base on a Ramirez single, and scored on a wild pitch to put the Panthers up 2-1.
Missouri took the lead after scoring two runs in each of the next two frames.
Laurin Krings (3-0) earned the win for the Tigers as Dani Drogemuller (1-2) suffered the loss, tossing 6.0 innings with six strikeouts, five earned runs on five hits and seven walks.
Game Two vs. FIU
Sophomore transfer Adriana Romano (1-0) took the circle and held the Panthers scoreless through two innings. The game looked to be a pitcher’s duel as Romano and FIU starter Megan Kruger each gave up just one hit over two innings.
