The Texas A&M baseball team spent the weekend playing a three-game series at Minute Maid Park for the 23rd Annual Shriners Children’s College Classic. The Aggies (7-4) came out of the weekend 3-1 and with their only loss coming to the Louisville Cardinals (10-1). The highlight of the weekend for Texas A&M was a low-scoring 16-inning pitching battle against No. 25 Texas Tech (11-2).
In the last game of the night, the Texas rivals were hoping to win a game and travel back home to get some rest. Well, the baseball Gods decided they wanted to watch extra baseball before the work week.
The Aggie’s pitching was on point last night they all deserve to be recognized. Chris Cortez, Shane Sdao, Will Johnston, Brad Rudis, Evan Aschenbeck, and Justin Lamkin combined for 23 strikeouts with only two runs.
The first score came in the fifth when Austin Bost singled through the left side for an RBI, but Texas Tech responded at the bottom of the with a two-run RBI single to go up 2-1. The next score took place in the top of the ninth when Trevor Warrner with the base loaded tied the game at 2-2.
From that point, both teams would go scoreless until the top of the sixteenth inning. Tech had a pitching change and that was the opening A&M needed to finally get the hits to put runners in scoring position. Hank Bard would score on an error and Jack Moss scored after a sacrifice fly by Werner. Then to close out the game, Aggie’s pitching came to the rescue yet again. Justin Lamkin came in for Evan Aschenbeck and retired the side with a strikeout, a flyout, and a strikeout to give A&M the win 4-2.
Social Media stayed up late to give their reactions. Check them out below:
Chris Cortez comes out after 101 pitches in the 6th with one out. His last two pitches were 97 and 98, mph, respectively. That was the best I’ve seen. Cortez. Landed his SL for strikes and showed elite velocity with decent command after the first two frames. @AggieBaseball

Things have unraveled for @TTU_Baseball‘s Damian Bravo here in the ninth. @AggieBaseball loads the bases and then he walks in a run. Tim Tadlock is out to the mound and Tech will go to the bullpen. Tie game, 2-2.
