Coby Mayo, 3B, Orioles — The top-ranked system in baseball is obviously stocked with high-end prospects. From No. 1 overall prospect Gunnar Henderson to future rotation gem Grayson Rodriguez, the Orioles have a whole lot of talent waiting in the wings. Mayo might join the system’s upper tier at some point this season. He has as much raw power as anybody on the Baltimore farm and showed it off on Tuesday, when he went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles against the Pirates. The icing on the cake? One of his doubles produced an exit velocity of 109.6 mph, the hardest-hit ball of the game.
Endy Rodriguez, C, Pirates — After establishing himself as the system’s best prospect last season, Rodriguez shouldn’t have to wait long to make his mark in Pittsburgh. The former Mets farmhand has been excellent this spring, going 7-for-17 in 10 games, including 2-for-2 on Tuesday after entering in the middle of the game.
Corbin Carroll, OF, D-backs — How does one celebrate signing a nine-figure extension? By balling out. Carroll, the No. 2 prospect in the sport, showed why he’s one of the centerpieces of Arizona’s rebuild. The speedy center fielder went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run scored. He also excelled analytically: He posted both the highest exit velocity (109.8 mph) and the fastest sprint speed (30.8 ft/s) of the game.
Oswald Peraza, SS, Yankees: So far this spring, the Yankees’ top three prospects have been mighty impressive. Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez in particular have each given fans a taste of the near future in the Bronx. It was Peraza’s turn on Tuesday, and the shortstop showed his sneaky power by hitting his first home run of the spring. The blast came off of Toronto reliever Thomas Hatch and left the bat at 103.9 mph and traveled an estimated 408 feet.
