No. 15 Duke Welcomes Liberty to Durham for Midweek Action


DURHAM – No. 15 Duke softball hosts Liberty for a midweek contest at Duke Softball Stadium on Tuesday night. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
 
The Blue Devils (24-5, 7-2 ACC) completed the three-game sweep over North Carolina (10-19, 1-5 ACC) with an 8-0 shutout win on Sunday afternoon. Home runs from graduate student Deja Davis, redshirt-freshman Jada Baker and junior Francesca Frelick highlighted the Blue Devils’ offense. Baker finished the day batting 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Davis and Frelick each went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Liberty enters the contest with a 16-9 record, including a 3-0 mark in conference play and hold the nation’s third-longest active winning streak with 15 games.

INSIDE THE SERIES

The Blue Devils lead the all-time series with Liberty, 3-2, after meeting for the first meeting in 2019. Tuesday’s contest will be the pair’s second matchup this season after the Blue Devils recorded an 8-5 win over the Flames during the season-opening weekend of the Mark Campbell Invitational in Irvine, Calif. on Feb. 10.

 

LAST TIME OUT

Duke tallied its ninth shutout win of the year after defeating North Carolina (10-19, 1-5 ACC), 8-0, on Sunday to complete the weekend series sweep.

Home runs from graduate student Deja Davis, redshirt-freshman Jada Baker and junior Francesca Frelick highlighted the Blue Devils’ offense on Sunday afternoon. Baker finished the day batting 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Davis and Frelick each went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

 

Freshman pitcher Cassidy Curd threw for all five innings to record the second complete game of her career. The Port St. Lucie, Fla., native held the Tar Heels to one hit while fanning five and allowing two walks in just 56 pitches.

 

NEXT UP

The Blue Devils continue a four-game homestand, hosting No. 5 Florida State for a three-game ACC weekend series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. Friday’s contest will be broadcast on ACC Network while the games on Saturday and Sunday will be available on ACC Network Extra.
