Auburn dominates Game 3 to take series over Tigers

Tigers name starting pitchers for opening series

For the first time all season, LSU has lost a conference series.

Auburn has now taken down No. 2 South Carolina and No. 1 LSU in back-to-back weeks after earning a dominating 12-2 run-rule win in Sunday’s decisive Game 3.

The game started off the way LSU wanted it to. Gavin Dugas hit a solo shot on the third pitch of the ballgame to give LSU a 1-0 lead.

That nice start became a nightmare in the bottom of the first inning as Christian Little gave up four walks and an RBI single in the first five batters he faced before he was replaced by Griffin Herring. Herring walked the first two batters he faced before giving up a two-RBI single to give Auburn a 6-1 lead after one inning.

Gavin Guidry got LSU out of a jam in the first inning and he would stay in to pitch the second. Auburn hit an RBI single off of him to increase its lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Auburn scored two more runs thanks to a two-RBI triple to increase its lead to 9-1.

LSU finally scored again in the top of the fifth inning when Dugas scored on a Tommy White single to cut the lead to 9-2. Auburn answered in the bottom of the sixth with another two-RBI triple to make it 11-2 Auburn.

Auburn walked it off with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the game 12-2.

With the loss, LSU drops to 37-10 and 16-7 in conference play. The next game will be Tuesday evening at 6:30 CT against Northwestern State.
