Baseball Eliminated by Ripon at MWC Tournament

BELOIT, Wis. – University of Chicago’s baseball program was eliminated from the Midwest Conference (MWC) Tournament with a 9-6 defeat to Ripon College on Saturday.

The Maroons, who fell first earlier in the morning in a rain-suspended game with host-Beloit, mounted a late rally, but were defeated by Ripon on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 5-0 after 2.5 innings, UChicago outscored Ripon 6-4 the rest of the way, including pushing across three runs in its final two at-bats.

Brady Miller and Richard Lu each had two hits to lead the offense. Jonathan Zeevi and Miller knocked in two runs a piece while Erik Rindner and Braden Jirovec each added one RBI.

Dylan White (1-3) suffered the defeat for the Maroons, allowing five runs, four earned in 3.0 innings. Phil Hogan, Tyler Sarkisian and John Butka combined to finish out the final 3.0 innings. Butka tossed 2.0 scoreless innings.

Down 5-0, Jirovec’s RBI single in the third and a two-RBI single in the fourth from Zeevi brought UChicago within two. Ripon, however, added insurance to pull ahead 9-3 after 7.5 innings.

Rindner hit a solo homer in the eighth and Miller hit a two-run homer in the ninth to pull UChicago back within three, but the Redhawks got the final two outs to finish off the win.

UChicago concludes its season with a 25-18 overall record and 15-9 record in MWC play.
