Wildcats Topped by Ducks, 2-1, in Series Opener

Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. — The Arizona Wildcats (9-11, 3-4) got another phenomenal performance from starting pitcher Jackson Kent, but fell on a final score of 2-1 to the Oregon Ducks (14-6, 5-2) on Friday night at PK Park.

Kent spun a gem for Arizona, going 7.0 innings while limiting Oregon to just two runs on five hits. The big left-hander struck out five but was saddled with his first loss of the season.

Arizona’s lone run came across in the fourth inning; shortstop Mason White led off the innings with a double and came around to score three batters later on an RBI single from catcher Adonys Guzman.

Oregon rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. Guzman led off the bottom of the ninth for the Wildcats but a rally was never able to materialize.

Wildcat right-hander Matthew Martinez worked the bottom of the eighth for Arizona, stranding a leadoff double to keep the deficit at just one run.
