FREDERICKSBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (0-1) were defeated by the Fredericksburg Nationals (1-0) by a score of 4-2 on opening night.

The Shorebirds would produce the game’s first run in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Angel Tejada who scored Anderson De Los Santos from third base, making it 1-0 Delmarva after two innings.

Trey Gibson entered for Delmarva in the bottom half of the inning and continued the trend of his starting pitcher by throwing a scoreless fifth.

However, the Nationals would jump on him in the sixth and score three runs on four hits to put the Shorebirds behind for the first time at 3-2.

Fredericksburg would add a key insurance run in the eighth on a fielder’s choice to up their advantage to 4-2.

The story late in the game was the National’s bullpen as they held the Shorebirds to just two hits in the final four innings, keeping them off the scoreboard as Fredericksburg held onto win 4-2.
