No. 6 LSU softball shuts out Auburn to even series

Auburn softball takes down UAB behind no-hit bid

Auburn softball attempted to win a series against the No. 6 LSU Tigers on the road on Saturday, coming off of its big win on Friday in Baton Rouge.

Unfortunately for Mickey Dean and his team, while they kept it close, they could not muster up any offense and got no-hit in a 2-0 loss at Tiger Park.

The pitching matchup in this game pitted two powerhouse arms in Auburn’s maddie penta and LSU’s Kelley Lynch. Surely enough, both pitcher’s delivered.

The only runs of the game came in the bottom of the 3rd inning. After two quick outs led things off for LSU, Sierra Daniel was able to leg out a single to the third base side, giving the Bengals their first baserunner of the contest.

McKenzie Redoutey followed that up with a two-run home run to center field, putting the game at 2-0. Ciara Briggs hit a double right after the long ball to put Auburn in more danger, but Penta was able to get out of the jam.

The orange and blue Tigers found their only real scoring chance in the top of the 6th when Millie Roberts led the inning off with a walk. After two outs, makayla packer was hit by a pitch to put two runners on.

Nelia Peralta immediately followed that up with a fly out to end the inning, keeping her team without a hit, which continued for the rest of the game.

Penta’s complete game loss had her give up two runs on six hits, while striking out and walking two batters each. She dropped to 13-7 on the year.

Lynch’s no hitter for LSU featured her striking out nine Auburn hitters and walking three. That performance improved her to 5-1 on the season as well.

The rubber match between the two teams is set for Sunday afternoon, where first pitch is set for 1 p.m. CST at Tiger Park. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
