The Somerset Patriots were shut out by Reading Fightin’ Phils on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 5-0 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA.

The loss marks the first time Somerset has been shut out this season. The Patriots went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position for a second straight day and left 11 on base, a day after leaving 14 on base. They also grounded into three double plays.

The three straight losses to begin the series signal Somerset’s second three-game losing streak of the season, as its first also came in the first three games of their only other road trip in New Hampshire April 12-14.

RHP Trystan Vrieling (5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HR) was tagged with his first career loss, despite striking out a career-high seven batters,

3B Jordan Groshans (2-for-4, K) picked up at least one hit for his third straight game since joining the Patriots, including his second multi-hit game.

2B Anthony Seigler (2-for-4, 2B) had the Patriots’ lone extra-base hit, while extending his season-best hit streak to four games.

RF Grant Richardson (2-for-3, BB) reached base a game-high three times, marking his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
