NC State

PITTSBURGH – KK Esparza hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the win, 4-1, over Robert Morris, Tuesday night at Vartabedian Field.

Olivia Stefanoni earned the win after pitching the final 3.1 innings as the Panthers’ pitching staff combined to allow one unearned run on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Kyra Pittman started the Panthers off with a seven pitch first inning, giving up a single in the first four batters faced. It was a pitcher’s duel from the start as the Panthers and Colonials combined for two hits over the first two frames.

The Colonials looked to break the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning, loading the bases off a single, hit by pitch, and a walk. Danni Farris started the top of the fourth and struck out the batter to record the second out. Stefanoni entered for the next at bat and allowed a walk and retired the next batter to end the inning.

Amanda “Tuta” Ramirez led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single up the middle. Desirae Martinez reached on a fielding error and Alena Ball drew a walk to load the bases with one out. KK Esparza hit a grand slam to right field off the first pitch to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

The Colonials got on the board in the top of the seventh inning after Anna Resnik reached third on a throwing error from the Panthers and Catalina Saxen single to right field to make the score 4-1.
