TEAM PLAYER RECORD ERA
USF RHP Lawson Gailey 2-1 4.61
FLORIDA RHP Liam Peterson 1-4 6.70

Florida will throw right-hander Liam Peterson against USF after getting four shutout innings from him against now-No.1 Tennessee. Peterson has the kind of stuff that’s going to make him one of the SEC’s elite arms down the road, but his freshman year has been a bit of a struggle. Mental conditioning we’ll call it.

This is the part where he overcomes all of that adversity, though, and it could mean more opportunities throughout the playoffs. Florida will need a solid fourth starter if it’s going to make a deep run this June.

The Bulls with throw sophomore Lawson Gailey against Florida. He made seven starts as a true freshman last season and has a 4.43 ERA through 20 1/3 innings (seven appearances, four starts) this year.

Gailey is a pitch-to-contact arm who only strikes batters out 17.8% of the time. He’s not exactly a flyball pitcher, but 44% of balls in play against him end up in the air. Against a team like Florida, those fly balls can easily turn into home runs. Gailey’s been somewhat lucky this season, sporting a low home-run-per-fly-ball rate of 3%.
