Blue Devils Face Boston College in ACC Quarterfinals Thursday


DURHAM – The top-seeded Blue Devils are set to open play in the 2024 ACC Softball Championships on Thursday against ninth-seeded Boston College at Duke Softball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 11 a. m.

After finishing with a 20-4 ACC ledger, fifth-ranked Duke softball secured the program’s first regular-season title and earned the No. 1 seed in the ACC Championship. The Blue Devils’ 44 wins set a program record for regular-season wins and marked the fourth straight season with 19-plus conference wins.

Boston College (30-23, 10-15 ACC) is coming off a 1-0 win over eighth-seed Syracuse in the opening round of the ACC Championship on Wednesday. The Eagles used back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth inning to push the game’s lone run across the plate. Junior Abby Dunning threw a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out three.

INSIDE THE SERIES

Duke leads the all-time series, 9-0, after a three-game sweep over Boston College in Brighton, Mass., last season. The Blue Devils collected a 6-4 victory in Friday’s series opener before defeating Boston College, 3-0, on Saturday to secure the series win. Duke completed the series sweep on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over the Eagles in nine innings. In the nine all-time meetings, the Blue Devils have outscored the Eagles 53-15.

UP NEXT

The winner of Thursday’s contest will advance to the semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m. They’ll meet the winner of the fourth-seeded Virginia and fifth-seeded Clemson contest.
