DURHAM, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College defeated Syracuse, 1-0, on Wednesday in the first game of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship at the Duke Softball Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The Eagles move on to face the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils on Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. in the first quarterfinal game.
Abby Dunning threw a complete game for BC, striking out four and allowing just two hits to earn her 14th win of the season. The Eagles tallied four hits on the afternoon from Hannah Slike, Nicole Giery, Jordan Stephens and Zoe Hines.
The first matchup of the week was quiet until the fourth inning when Slike led off with a double to left center and immediately scored off a double from Nicole Giery down the left field line. That was all the Eagles needed as Dunning shut the Orange offense down to secure the 1-0 shutout.
Tomorrow’s 11 a.m. matchup between the Eagles and the Blue Devils will be broadcast on ACC Network.
