Duke Walks Off Boston College to Advance to Semifinals of ACC Softball Championship


DURHAM, N.C. (theACC.com) – 2024 Defensive Player of the Year Aminah Vega hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning as top-seeded Duke defeated No. 9-seeded Boston College, 2-0, on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship at the Duke Softball Stadium.

The Blue Devils move on to face the winner of the No. 4 Virginia and No. 5 Clemson matchup in the semifinals on Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m.

The 2024 ACC Pitcher of the Year Jala Wright tallied 17 strikeouts on the day, a career-high and a Duke Softball program record, while Boston College’s Abby Dunning threw her second complete game of the tournament in as many days and picked up six strikeouts in the pitchers duel.

Duke’s Claire Davidson, the 2024 ACC Player of the Year, doubled to left field and scored off Vega’s blast to center field in extra innings as the Blue Devils picked up the 2-0 win and secured a spot in the semifinals for the fourth year in a row.

Nicole Giery went 3-for-5 and Gator Robinson went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Eagles.

The quarterfinals continue with Virginia against Clemson, followed by a matchup between No. 2 Florida State and No. 10 Notre Dame. Thursday’s slate of games will end with the nightcap between No. 3 Virginia Tech and No. 6 Georgia Tech.
