Huskies Fall To Arizona, 11-3, In Quarterfinals


STANFORD, Calif. – No. 11 Washington softball fell 11-3 (6 innings) to No. 18 Arizona in the quarterfinal round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday night at Smith Family Stadium.
 
The loss drops Washington to 31-13 heading into the NCAA Tournament.
 
Arizona got on the board early with a pair of runs in the first. The Wildcats added two runs in the second and a run in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
 
A leadoff walk to Jillian Celis brought up Alana Johnson who sent her 13th home run of the season out to straight-away center. In the next at bat, Giselle Alvarez hit home run No. 3 out to left to cut the Arizona lead to two.

 
Arizona’s Olivia DiNardo hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to extend the Wildcat lead back out to four. Arizona brought in four runs in the sixth to bring the score to its final.
 
Brooklyn Carter recorded her 21st stolen base of the season in the first inning, marking 44 straight steals dating back to last season. She also led the team, along with Alvarez, with a pair of hits.
 
Up next, the Huskies await the NCAA Tournament selections on Sunday afternoon. The selection show will air on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. PT.
