Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, TX – The Oklahoma City Baseball Club (22-14) took the lead and never looked back as the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (23-13) fell 22-3 at Constellation Field on Thursday night.

After putting two on base from a couple of walks, RHP Misael Tamarez (L, 3-2) surrendered back-to-back singles to give Oklahoma City a 2-0 lead with two outs in the top of the first. Austin Gauither extended Oklahoma City’s advantage with a solo home run to right field, and an Andre Lipcius RBI base-hit and a bases-clearing triple made it 7-0 Oklahoma City after two frames. Oklahoma City would go on to score one in the fifth, three in the sixth, nine in the eighth against a pair of position players pitching and two in the ninth.

Finding themselves in a steep hole after 5.0 shutout innings from RHP Ben Casparius (W, 1-0), the Space Cowboys avoided the shutout in the bottom of the eighth when Cooper Hummel shot a hit through the left side to score one. Sugar Land scored two more in the ninth with Bastidas doubling in David Hensley from second base and Will Wagner hit a sacrifice fly. League City native RHP Braydon Fisher induced a ground out from Hummel to end the contest after 1.1 innings of work for the OKC righty.

The Space Cowboys start their first ‘Fauxback Weekend’ Friday night against the Oklahoma City Baseball Club on Friday night. RHP AJ Blubaugh (2-0, 4.43) will take the mound opposite of RHP Eduardo Salazar (1-2, 5.65) for a 6:35 pm CT first pitch. The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV, MLB.TV or Bally Live.
