Evan Carter, OF, Rangers—For a while now, Evan Carter has been nursing a sore foot. After Tuesday’s performance, it seems like he’s healing up quite nicely. Facing Rome, Carter, who neatly combines polish with tools, went 3-for-6 with two triples and a grand slam. In doing so, Carter became the fourth in a quartet of teenagers with five or more apiece of doubles, triples and home runs. The rest of the group includes Alex Ramirez (Mets), Eddinson Paulino (Red Sox) and …
Carson Williams, SS, Rays—The 18-year-old Rays prospect, who was Tampa Bay’s first-rounder in the 2021 draft out of high school in California, continued his upswing after a recent swoon. He crushed the ball last week, earning himself a place on the most recent Hot Sheet. In this week’s series opener, that trend continued. Facing Columbia, Williams went 3-for-4 with a home run, walked, scored twice and drove in four runs. His .925 OPS is fifth in the shortstop-rich Carolina League.
Mason Montgomery, LHP, Rays
Montgomery has been a revelation this season. Maybe even a Ray-velation. No matter the terminology, Tampa Bay’s sixth-rounder from this past draft whiffed a dozen for High-A Bowling Green on Tuesday night. With the effort, he joined Braves prospect Royber Salinas as the only two minor leaguers with 100 or more strikeouts this season. He’s faced 235 hitters this season and struck out 100, good for a 42.6% rate.
