Red Sox' Jarren Duran to miss Toronto series due to vaccination status

Jarren Duran ineligible to travel with Red Sox for Toronto series originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Red Sox won’t have Jarren Duran when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays next week.

Duran is ineligible to play in Toronto as he is unvaccinated against COVID-19. All travelers to Canada are required to be vaccinated, so unvaccinated players cannot travel with their team for series in Toronto.

Red Sox prospect update: Who’s next to be promoted?

“I feel like everybody has had their time to make their personal decisions, talk to their families and stuff like that,” Duran said, per MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo. “Since I’m up here, I’m still doing my research, talking to my family and doing what’s best for me.”

Tanner Houck, who recently has taken over as the Red Sox closer, also remains unvaccinated and will not make the trip. The right-hander missed the team’s four-game series at Rogers Centre earlier this season due to his vaccination status.

Duran, 25, has played well in his nine games with the big-league club this season. The speedy outfielder is hitting .303 with two doubles and two triples, an encouraging sign after his underwhelming stint with the club last year.

The Red Sox will wrap up their three-game series vs. the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night before starting another three-game set vs. the Guardians in Cleveland. Their series in Toronto begins June 27.
