Early Offense Too Much as Bowie Downs Ducks 6-4

Summary

The Bowie Baysox score twice in the third, fourth and fifth to down the Akron RubberDucks 6-4 on Friday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Bowie cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the third when Maverick Handley singled to right field to score two and make it 2-0 Baysox.


Mound Presence

Tanner Burns got the start for Akron and worked around trouble for most of the night. After allowing the first two to reach in the first and second inning, Burns settled in to retire the next three. Bowie struck for two in the third and two more in the fourth to close the right-hander’s final line at three and two-thirds innings allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out four. Aaron Pinto followed with two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs. Robert Broom followed with two and a third scoreless innings striking out two. Cade Smith fired two and a third scoreless innings.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks started to comeback in the sixth when Jose Tena singled home Quentin Holmes to make it 6-1 Bowie. Akron added on a batter later in when Brayan Rocchio launched a two-run home run to make it 6-3 Baysox. The RubberDucks got as close as they would get in the eighth when Micah Pries doubled home Rocchio to make it 6-4 Bowie.

Notebook

Pries extended his hitting streak to seven games…Broom extended his scoreless innings streak to four and two third innings this series …Game Time: 2:47…Attendance: 7,227.

On the Pond

The RubberDucks will continue their series with the Bowie Baysox on Saturday, August 13 with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one will be at 5:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Right-handed pitcher Tanner Bibee (1-1, 1.71 ERA) will take the mound for Akron in game one against Bowie righty Ryan Watson (7-5, 3.45 ERA).
