August 12, 2022 – Southern League (SL)Montgomery Biscuits News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Ten. – The Biscuits (51-48/23-14) defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts (52-49/17-20) in a nail bitter that went extra innings, 5-4 (10) Friday night at AT&T Field. The Biscuits started clicking on all cylinders as they went up 4-0 through the first five innings. However, Chattanooga managed to inch back and make it close late.

Montgomery started things on the right foot with a solo home run from Ronny Simon in the top of the second inning. A few at-bats later, Evan Edwards recorded an RBI-double that scored Jordan Qsar. Through four innings, Biscuits starter Sean Hunley (3-1, 3.47) only allowed a pair of hits. Montgomery took advantage of his impressive effort on the mound as Diego Infante extended their lead to 3-0 after an RBI-single.

A bases-loaded walk by Eduardo Salazar in the top of the fifth brought Edwards home and made it 4 unanswered for Montgomery. In the bottom of the inning, the Lookouts finally got on the board thanks to a three-run RBI-double from third baseman Elly De La Cruz that closed the gap and made it a game again 4-3. Chattanooga was able to tie the game at four when first baseman Christian Incarnation-Strand connected on a RBI-double.

With no one able to walk-off in regulation, the game moved to extra innings where the Biscuits are 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the second half before tonight. Montgomery caught a break as they scored the go-ahead run with a wild pitch by Michael Byrne to put them ahead 5-4.

Biscuits relief pitcher Joe LaSorsa came in to wrap the game and close out the lights in Chattanooga. With two outs and a man at third, the Lookouts were threatening the chance to tie. A pop-out by second baseman Nick Quintana was the final out of the night as the boys in blue hung on for another win.

With the win, the Biscuits now stand just a game behind the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for first place in the overall standings and remain three games above the Mississippi Braves for second-half standings. The Biscuits return to action and look to secure another win when LHP Mason Montgomery (0-0, 2.89) duels Connor Phillips (0-3, 6.86) Saturday at 6:15 PM CT.
