Aggies fall to LSU in their first game of series

Aggie’s drop a spot in the USA Today Sports rankings

Texas A&M (13-5) just couldn’t get anything going with the bats the whole game after LSU (17-1) jumped out to an early lead. The Aggies only put four hits on the board and went scoreless against the No. 1 team in the nation. LSU put on a pitching clinic striking out 15 batters to only three walks. Texas A&M tried to mount a defensive effort to help support the lack of hits, but they could only hold on for so long before LSU put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth.

LSU logged the first runs of the game at the top of the first inning with two runs while blanking the Aggies in the bottom half of the inning. The next set of runs would also belong to the Tigers tacking on two more scores off three hits in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The game was a stalemate for the next five innings with both teams trading outs and neither threatening any additional runs. Finally, in the top of the eighth, the action picked up with LSU getting a few hits and putting runners in scoring positions, but they came up empty abandoning two runners on bases.

With their best chance of the game to get within striking distance in a while, the Aggies managed to get Hunter Haas and Max Kaufer on second and third. Austin Bost couldn’t bring them home as he popped up a foul ball that was caught for the last out of the inning.

As the saying goes “to add insult to injury” the Tigers exploded on the Aggies for five runs in the top of the ninth to go up 9-0 which turned out to be the final score of the game.

Final Score: Aggies 0, Tigers 9 – W: Skenes, Paul (5-0); L: Dettmer, Nathan (1-2): S: Little, Christian

Game two will be on March 18 at 2:00 pm at Blue Bell Park
