LSU, Arkansas sit at the top

The SEC baseball season is finally upon us, and opening weekend was nothing short of exciting.

Five teams started the SEC season with a weekend sweep, Arkansas being one of the five. The Hogs swept Auburn in their SEC opener, outscoring the Tigers 23-5 thanks to outstanding work on the mound.

With their 13-game win streak and sweep, the Razorbacks are the new leaders of the SEC West division, just ahead of the No. 1 team in the country, LSU Tigers.

Around the rest of the SEC, it was surprising to see how some of the series turned out. Teams who walked into the 2023 season as one of the contenders are looking at an 0-3 conference record after the first weekend of league play.

We’re looking at you, Tennessee.

The Tigers didn’t start the SEC season with a sweep but they defeated Texas A&M in the first two games to claim the series.

After sweeping Auburn, the Hogs extended their win streak to 13 games over the weekend. Next for the Diamond Hogs, the LSU Tigers.

The Gators leaped into the top five after clinching their first SEC series of the season, knocking off Alabama in two games, one of which was a part of a Friday doubleheader.

The Wildcats are playing very good baseball and should be taken seriously. Their weekend sweep against Mississippi State helped land them in the rankings across the board.

It was not a good week for the Rebels, losing a one-off to Jacksonville State on the road, then being swept by Vanderbilt over the weekend. They’ll host Florida this weekend.
