Noting ACC Baseball  – March 28

• Wake Forest and Virginia sit atop their respective divisions and high in the national polls following impressive series sweeps last weekend. The Demon Deacons took three straight from Miami for the first time in program history, running their season record at home to 18-1 and surpassing the 20-win plateau less than halfway into the regular season. Wake Forest continues to be ranked No. 2 nationally by the USA Today Coaches Poll and D1Baseball and is no lower than No. 4 in any of this week’s major national rankings. 

• Virginia is ranked as high as No. 3 nationally following its sweep of Florida State in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers, who are 16-0 at home this season, have matched their best start in program history with 22 wins in 24 games. The Cavaliers were also 22-2 in 2013 and 2022. Virginia has been 23-2 through 25 games, three times – 2011, 2013 and 2022.

•  Virginia (22-2) is slated to play host to Old Dominion (20-4) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Virginia, Wake Forest and ODU are three of the 11 20-win teams in college baseball. The UVA-ODU game will mark the third time two 20-win teams have played one another this season, following last Saturday’s doubleheader between No. 1 LSU and No. 6 Arkansas.

• Other matchups on Tuesday’s busy non-conference slate for ACC teams include No. 14 Boston College at No. 20 UConn. Florida State’s matchup versus No. 3 Florida in the Sunshine Classic in Jacksonville, Florida was postponed and rescheduled for May 2. ACC teams own a 167-45 record (.788) versus outside opposition, including a 125-20 mark at home.

•  Clemson welcomes No. 2 Wake Forest on Thursday at 7 p.m. for what will be the third of eight conference games that ACC Network will feature on Thursday nights throughout the spring, with all eight contests being conference matchups. Upcoming games following this week include Clemson at Florida State (April 6, 8 p.m.), Miami at North Carolina (April 13, 7 p.m.), Miami at Louisville (April 27, 7 p.m.), NC State at Notre Dame (May 4, 7 p.m.) and Florida State at Louisville (May 18, 7 p.m.).
