According to Florida Atlantic’s game preview, the Gators are starting Cade Fisher. That could change, but it’s who Kevin O’Sullivan went with last week and is as good a guess as any during a season where the pitching staff is continually playing musical chairs.
Fisher threw two innings against Stetson a week ago, giving up a run on four hits. Zero walks and a strikeout are the more important data points from his stat line. It’s his only punchout since April 12 and his first no-walk performance since the beginning of the month.
Dawson Ball has made 12 appearances out of the bullpen and is getting his first career start against Florida. Opposing batters are hitting .310 against him with a .779 OPS, but that’s down from over 1.100 the past two seasons.
Another note: Ball has yet to give up a home run this season, albeit through 13 1/3 innings. Florida is a home run-hitting team, so that’s the battle tonight. Power or no power?
