The Oklahoma Sooners started their 2024 postseason off with a bang in their 10-1 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday. In the win, the Sooners had five extra-base hits, including a Jayda Coleman home run.
The win sets up a semifinal matchup with the BYU Cougars who knocked off Oklahoma State in their quarterfinal matchup on the back of a strong pitching performance from Chloe Temples. Temples threw a complete game in the Cougars 7-2 win.
For the Sooners, the question turns to the circle for their matchup against a BYU team who finished third in the conference in runs scored and fourth in home runs. Kelly Maxwell got the start but only threw three innings, so she could be available for today’s game. But it’s likely Patty Gasso and Jennifer Rocha go with a veteran arm like Nicole May or they could use Kierston Deal or Karlie Keeney, who have pitched well of late.
The winner will move on to face either Texas or Baylor who take the field following the conclusion of the Sooners matchup with the Cougars at Devon Park.
