June 5, 2022 – Midwest League (MWL)Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost, 8-0, to the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) in their series finale at Dow Diamond on Sunday. The game was called after five innings due to rain. Despite the setback, Fort Wayne still split the six-game set.

Wyatt Hoffman, son of Hall of Fame pitcher Trevor Hoffman, made his TinCaps debut in the game. The 23-year-old University of Pacific alum started at second base. Though Hoffman finished 0-for-2 at the plate, he made the hardest contact of the day for the ‘Caps in the top of the fifth inning. With runners on first and second, he smashed a ball to left-center field that looked destined for extra-bases. However, Loons left fielder Edwin Mateo tracked it down with a full sprint to the warning track and kept starter Kyle Hurt’s no-hitter alive.

Wyatt is the youngest son of Trevor Hoffman, who spent 16 years as the closer for the TinCaps’ parent club, the San Diego Padres. Trevor’s 601 saves rank second all-time in MLB history.Great Lakes (28-23) posted six extra-base hits in five innings, including a home run from first basemen Imanol Vargas in the third. The Loons scored one in the first, four in the second, and three in the third.

Fort Wayne (20-31) worked two walks and had a runner reach on an error.
