Maryland Meets UMBC On Wednesday At 6 p.m.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland is back in midweek action as they take on the UMBC Retrievers after their first weekend series in the Big Ten on the road. Due to inclement weather, the game between the Terrapins and the Retrievers will be moved to Wednesday, April 3 at 6 p.m. Due to field conditions, the game will now be played in College Park at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. The other match-up between the Terps and the Retrievers on April 10 will now be moved to UMBC, with a game time to be announced at a later date. The game will be streamed on B1G+ and air on the Maryland Baseball Network. *Due to inclement weather still in the area, the game against UMBC has been moved from it’s strart time of 4 p.m. and will now be played at 6 p.m.

The Terrapins (20-8) return to action after dropping their weekend series to Michigan. After trailing and down to their final out, the Terps stormed back with five runs in the ninth inning to take the lead and win the game by a score of 11-9. The Terps would drop the final two games of the weekend to the Wolverines 12-1 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday. This snapped the program’s streak of 23 consecutive Big Ten series victories, with the last series loss coming against Nebraska back on April 9-11, 2021.

The Terrapins and Retrievers have met 54 times, with the Terps holding the all-time series lead with a record of 40-13-1. The two teams met twice during the 2023 season, with the Terps winning both games by a combined score of 36-17. 

UMBC (10-14) comes into the match-up after dropping all three of their games against conference foe Bryant. The first two games of the series came down to one run. UMBC and Bryant were tied throughout game one, but Bryant got a run late to take a 4-3 win. In game two, UMBC trailed 9-3 heading into the ninth inning and scored five runs but came up just short in a 9-8 loss. UMBC lost the final game of the series to Bryant by a score of 6-2. Matt Ryan leads the team in batting average at .333 while having two home runs and 15 RBI. Matthew Best leads the team with three home runs on the season and Anthony Swenda leads the team with 21 RBI. Logan Wiley leads the team with three wins on the year and Sam Downs leads the pitching staff with a 3.06 ERA.
