Paul Skenes has been on what seems to be a pitch count at the minor league level. All of his outings consisted of him pitching three innings or fewer, but he has been making those innings count.
On Friday, he earned the start once again for the Indianapolis Indians. He allowed zero runs and three hits while striking out eight hitters in 3 1/3 innings. That brings his season total to 9 1/3 innings. He has allowed four hits and zero runs; he has struck out 19 hitters on the year.
He has struck out more than 2/3 of the hitters he has faced in Triple A. I expect Skenes to be playing in Pittsburgh sometime this season. Whether it be sooner or later is up to the Pirates organization. Between Skenes and Jared Jones, the future is looking bright on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
