Cougars Drop Game Two of Series With Fresno State

PULLMAN, Wash. (April 27, 2024) – Washington State dropped a 12-2 decision to Fresno State at Bailey-Brayton Field Saturday evening.
 
The Cougars (18-23) received two-hit games from Casen Taggart, Nate Swarts and Ely Kennel. Fresno State improved to 27-15 after collecting 17 hits and posting four-run fourth and sixth innings.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the first inning, Fresno State took an early lead with a two-out RBI-single through the left side. WSU put runners on second and third with two outs in the second but FSU ended the threat with a flyout to shallow left field.
 
In the fourth, FSU used five hits and Cougar error to plate four runs but the Cougars answered with back-to-back doubles from Nate Swarts and Ely Kennel. WSU later loaded the bases with two outs but the Fresno State third baseman dove to his left to make a stop and fired to first to end the threat.
 
Fresno State pulled away with a four-run sixth inning, a run in the seventh and two more in the ninth.
