June 5, 2022 – South Atlantic League (SAL)Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Lakewood, NJ – The Cyclones dropped the series finale to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-2. Brooklyn went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, including 0-for-3 with a pair of runners in scoring position in the sixth.

LHP Nick Zwack made the start for the Cyclones and had his best outing since joining Brooklyn tossing 4.0 shutout frames, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out three.

The teams traded zeroes through the first four frames, but Brooklyn broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth. Joe Suozzi and Jaylen Palmer had back-to-back singles to start the frame before Shervyen Newton struck out and Branden Fryman popped out on the infield. So with two outs, Rowdey Jordan came to the plate and stroked a 0-1 pitch over the left fielder’s head to plate the pair and give Brooklyn a 2-0 advantage.

The lead would be short-lived though, as Oscar Rojas (4-2) came out of the Cyclones bullpen and quickly found himself in trouble. D.J. Stewart had a leadoff single before Karl Ellison connected on his first home run of the season to knot the score at 2-2.

In the top of the sixth, the Cyclones had a golden opportunity to take the lead back when JT Schwartz singled to start the frame and advanced to third on a double from Brandon McIlwain to put a pair of runners in scoring position with nobody out. Jose Mena then popped out in foul territory, Joe Suozzi struck out looking and Jaylen Plamer flied out to center to end the threat.

In the bottom of the inning the BlueClaws took a lead they wouldn’t relinquish when Casey Martin grounded into a double play with runners on the corners, allowing Johan Rojas to score with the go-ahead run for Jersey Shore.

Three BlueClaw relievers combined to toss the final 3.0 frames allowing just a two-out double to Rowdey Jordan in the seventh to close out the game.
